Yehusha Lifu demonstrated leadership qualities and determination from a young age.
Also known as Yesha, the 18-year-old hails from New Mapoon and completed her Certificate II in Engineering Pathways through School Tech while in years 11 and 12.
As part of her studies, she completed work placement at Penske and Pacific Hino.
Yesha also excelled while boarding at AFL Girls House, which she attended from grades eight to 12.
She enjoyed playing AFL and participating in cultural activities, and was even the boarding house captain and the cultural dance leader.
Yesha definitely made an impression, with the cultural legacy award being named after her.
“The practical and theory experience I gained during work experience really helped me,” she said.
“It also helped improve my confidence.
“I received great support from my teachers and mentors. I would definitely recommend School Tech to both students and businesses.”
Yesha is currently completing an apprentice ready traineeship through MRAEL.
Her goal was to secure a position at Rio Tinto, which she has successfully achieved and will commence next year.
AFLCY House for Girls Boarding Manager Sean Hunter described Yesha as a strong leader.
“She’s a shining light who oozed leadership qualities from a young age,” he said.
“She’s a hard worker who made a successful transition from study to work.
“Yesha has had an empowering journey. Her story resonates with people.
“I hope her story and the pathway she has taken will inspire others to strive for success.”
Sean said School Tech gives students a head start in their careers.
“It’s a great way for young people to fast track their schooling and step into an adult learning environment,” he said.
