In June 2022, the Queensland Training Ombudsman (QTO) report 'Review of support provided to Queensland apprentices and trainees, with a focus on female apprentices in male dominated occupations' was released. This report reviewed the support measures available to apprentices across the state.

It detailed a range of recommendations for the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) and other key stakeholders related to:

  • preparing prospective employers and apprentices and trainees
  • supporting apprentices, trainees, and their employers throughout their training contract
  • ensuring that where intervention is required, it happens in a coordinated manner and as early as possible.

Apprenticeships Info line
An apprenticeship and traineeship info line was established prior to the release of the report's findings. As part of the report's recommendations, DESBT is committed to improving the support it offers to apprentices, trainees and employers to address bullying and workplace harassment in the workplace.

Apprentices, trainees and employers can phone 1800 210 210 from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.45pm.
